At the height of the speculation about who would buy Reemtsma, some houses speculated that Imperial, if successful, would lose its investment-grade ratings. Imperial’s track record of delivering savings and our belief that it would need to retain access to the debt markets led us to believe otherwise. When the deal details emerged, our position was vindicated and the bonds rallied.
