FSA director to chair Joint Forum

UK financial regulator the Financial Services Authority’s director of markets, Gay Huey Evans, will take over the chairmanship of the Joint Forum in January. She succeeds José María Roldán, general director of financial regulation at the Bank of Spain, whose two-year term as chairman will then have ended.

Huey Evans called the role “a pivotal position in international financial regulation", congratulating her predecessor for his strong leadership.

The body’s aim is to facilitate greater cooperation internationally between financial regulators covering different financial sectors. Its mandate covers regulatory risk assessment, credit risk and operational risk.

An official from the Joint Forum was unable to give details of any particular new projects. But he said a meeting was scheduled for early 2004 at which future plans for the forum would be discussed.

The Forum was formed in 1996 and represents a group of experts taken in equal number from senior posts in the banking, insurance and securities industries. They work under the under the aegis of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the International Organisation of Securities Commissions and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
