The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has published credit risk management guidance for home equity lending. The guidance is, in part, a response to the increase in home equity lines of credit granted by lenders. "Part of that growth is attributed to eased underwriting standards. We came up with some areas where we thought they could strengthen risk management practices," says Barbara Grunkemeyer, deputy comptroller for credit risk at the OCC in Washington, DC.
