Last year, Paul Griffith, head of European credit research covering investment-grade automotive and asset-heavy cyclical industries in Europe, was pipped to the top post by Barclays Capital. The year before, Griffith came in third in the auto category. This year, the glory is Goldman Sachs's as the auto team is victorious after steady progress up the rankings – probably the most satisfying way to reach the top. Griffith joined Goldman
