Asia moves: Senior hires at Crédit Agricole, HSBC, Natixis and more

Crédit Agricole CIB has appointed Benjamin Lamberg as senior country officer for Japan, effective October 1, 2023, subject to regulatory approval. 

Based in Tokyo, Lamberg will be responsible for overseeing all the bank’s activities in Japan, deepening existing client relationships and further developing the bank’s local footprint. He will report to Jean-François Deroche, Crédit Agricole CIB, senior regional officer for Asia-Pacific.

Lamberg has held several senior leadership roles at Crédit Agricole since joining the bank in 2008 in London. Prior to the role, he was the bank’s chief executive officer for Taiwan.


The Bank for International Settlements has announced several appointments of central bank governors to lead the bank’s key groups. 

Eddie Yue, chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, was appointed chair of the meeting of governors of major emerging market economies (EMEs), a venue for the exchange of views on macroeconomic and financial developments and risks, and on other relevant matters in EMEs.  

Yue’s three-year term commenced on September 1 upon the retirement of the previous chair, BIS deputy general manager, Luiz Awazu Pereira da Silva.

The BIS board of directors approved the extension for one year of Bank Indonesia governor Perry Warjiyo’s term as chair of the Asian Consultative Council, which comprises the governors of the BIS member central banks in the Asia-Pacific region. Warjiyo’s term will run until September 25, 2024. 

The central bank governors of the Global Economy Meeting appointed Fabio Panetta as chair of the BIS Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), the global standard-setter for payment, clearing and settlement services, and market infrastructures, for a three-year term. 

Panetta is currently a member of the executive board of the ECB and incoming governor of the Bank of Italy. On November 1, he will succeed Sir Jon Cunliffe, deputy governor of the Bank of England, who has been CPMI chair since January 2020.


Lok Yim has been appointed by HSBC as regional head of global private banking, Asia-Pacific. Yim joins HSBC on a designate basis on November 1 and commences formally on January 1, 2024, subject to regulatory approval. 

Yim succeeds Siew Meng Tan, who is retiring after an almost 40-year career in banking. 

Based in Hong Kong, Yim will report to Annabel Spring, chief executive officer, global private banking and wealth, and Kai Zhang, head of wealth and personal banking, South Asia.

Yim joins HSBC from Deutsche Bank where he spent 16 years, most recently as chief executive officer, Hong Kong SAR, having previously spearheaded the bank’s wealth management and international private banking franchises in Asia and emerging markets.


Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking announced the appointment of Abbas Rangwala as head of M&A, South-east Asia & India. In this newly created role, Abbas will be responsible for leading and growing our M&A franchise in South-east Asia and India.

Based in Singapore, Rangwala reports to Miranda Zhao, head of M&A, Asia-Pacific, and Bertrand Guiot, head of real assets & investment banking, SEA and head of infrastructure fund coverage, Asia-Pacific.

Prior to his appointment, Rangwala was the group head of mergers, acquisitions and business development at Bharti Enterprises, one of India’s largest corporate groups, and before that, the head of M&A at InterGlobe Enterprises. Previously, he held senior investment banking roles at Citigroup and Deutsche Bank across Singapore, Hong Kong and Mumbai.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has announced the appointment of Jeff Ng as head of Asia macro strategy for its global markets & treasury business.  

Based in Singapore, Jeff formulates and disseminates views on Asian macro, currency and rates markets, with a focus on Australia, India and the ASEAN region. In this newly created role, Jeff will work closely with Ryota Abe, SMBC’s Asia economist and the global economist team to analyse FX and rates to identify investment opportunities.

Jeff joins SMBC with more than 14 years of experience including roles at Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered where he covered global markets as a strategist.
