Kirilenko to step down from CFTC

US regulator's chief economist will move to academia

Andrei Kirilenko, the chief economist at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, is to leave the regulator at the end of the year. He will move to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has been appointed professor of the practice of finance at the university's Sloan School of Management.

Kirilenko joined the regulator as a senior financial economist in 2008, after working as a global capital markets economist at the International Monetary Fund for 12 years. He was named as
