Montalvo named as Eiopa's first executive director

Former Ceiops secretary-general will run pension supervisor day-to-day

Carlos Montalvo, currently acting secretary-general of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (Eiopa), has been named the regulator's first executive director. Once confirmed by the European Parliament, Montalvo will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Eiopa and will work with the chair, Gabriel Bernardino.

Montalvo was appointed acting secretary-general in January. Until the creation of Eiopa on January 1, he was secretary-general of its predecessor, the Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors, from 2007 to 2010. Before that, he was head of international supervision for the Spanish pension and insurance regulator the Direccion General de Seguros y Pensiones.
