Noyer named as new BIS chairman

Christian Noyer, the governor of the Banque de France, has been named as the new chairman of the Bank for International Settlements in Basel. He will succeed Guillermo Ortiz, the former governor of the Bank of Mexico, on March 7. Ortiz stepped down from both posts in December.

Noyer has been governor of the Banque de France since 2003 and was reappointed in 2009. Before that he was vice-president of the European Central Bank from its foundation in 1998 until 2002.
