Chair of Senate Banking Committee to step down

Chris Dodd, chairman of the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and a significant contributor to the incoming US over-the-counter derivatives legislation, will retire from the senate next year.

After two years at the helm of the banking committee and 30 years as senator for Connecticut, Dodd announced yesterday he would not stand for re-election and would leave both posts in January 2011.
