El Erian returns to Pimco

Mohamed El-Erian is rejoining Pimco after less than two years running Harvard University’s endowment fund.

El-Erian says he is returning from Boston to Pimco’s California headquarters for family reasons. He will take on a new position as co-CEO and co-chief investment officer of the world’s largest bond manager in January, joining CEO Bill Thompson and Pimco founder Bill Gross on the firm’s senior management team.

The move has been seen as an indication that El-Erian is being groomed for the top
