Schachter quits Sac for BAM

Barry Schachter, a prominent name in the financial engineering industry, has left his role as head of risk management at $4 billion hedge fund Sac Capital Advisors to join rival Balyasny Asset Management (BAM).

Schachter takes the position of chief risk officer at BAM and will be based in New York. Prior to his 20-month spell at Sac, Schachter was head of enterprise-wide risk management at $9 billion hedge fund Caxton.

Schachter is a fellow of the program in mathematics in finance at the Courant Institute of New York University. Prior to his move into the hedge fund industry, he held roles at Chase Manhattan, the US Comptroller of the Currency, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission and several universities.

Sac is currently seeking a replacement.
