Fraud squad goes in as UK insurer collapses

LONDON – The collapse of the UK insurance group Independent Insurance in June caused another round of questions about the way UK insurance companies are regulated, audited and managed.

Investigators from the UK Serious Fraud Office are studying the circumstances whereby Independent found itself with unquantifiable losses apparently stemming from insurance claims that were never entered into its accounting systems.
