Macquarie’s head of equity markets retires

Ottmar Weiss will retire from his position as head of Macquarie’s equity markets group (EMG) on September 30, a position he has held for five years.

Weiss previously headed the equity structured products division within EMG and has spent a total of 20 years at the Sydney-based bank. He will continue to work for Macquarie on a part-time consultancy basis.

Kim Burke, who was most recently head of Macquarie’s Asian businesses in Hong Kong, will take over as group head of equities and become a member of Macquarie's executive committee. Burke also led the bank’s expansion in South Africa for two and a half years, where he established an equity derivatives unit with Johannesburg-based Standard Bank.

Macquarie chief executive Allan Moss paid tribute to Weiss’s role in driving Macquarie’s international growth.
