BIS chief executive will quit in September

Malcolm Knight, general manager and chief executive of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), will step down at the end of September, ahead of his planned departure in June 2009.

Knight will move from the BIS in Basel to Deutsche Bank, where he will take the post of non-executive vice-chairman. He will focus on regulatory and supervisory matters, and financial stability.

Knight joined the BIS in April 2003 as general manager and chief executive; before that he was senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada.
