Summe replaces Jelich as Isda general counsel

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (Isda) has promoted Kimberly Summe to be its general counsel, effective from September 10, replacing Emily Jelich. Isda said Jelich, who only took up the role three months ago, was leaving for “personal reasons” and returning from New York to her hometown of Toronto.

Prior to joining Isda as assistant general counsel in July 2000, Summe worked as an associate at law firms Pillsbury Madison & Sutro, in San Francisco, and New York-based Sullivan & Cromwell, representing financial institutions on transactions and regulatory issues. Isda told RiskNews that Summe and Robert Pickel, Isda's chief executive officer who was formerly general counsel, are currently looking to fill the now vacant assistant general counsel position.

Summe has published more than a dozen articles related to the regulatory aspects of banking laws in the US and Europe. She is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, Cambridge University and the University of Chicago Law School, and holds a graduate degree in economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

"In the fifteen months Summe has been with Isda she has exhibited a strong dedication to Isda and its mission, and has very effectively led a variety of initiatives, including collateral and electronic documentation," said Pickel.
