CFTC loses chief economist

Overdahl will join the SEC this week as chief economist, replacing Chester Spatt, who announced last week he would be returning to academia. Spatt is professor of finance at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

No replacement has been named at the CFTC, which also lost its chairman last month. A permanent replacement for Reuben Jeffery, now serving as undersecretary of state for economic, energy and agricultural affairs, has not yet been named.
