SG promotes fixed income and derivatives chief

Varenne, who was previously head of just fixed income and derivatives, joined the bank in 1988 as a currency options trader, working from both the Tokyo and Paris offices at different times. In 1992 he moved to cover equity derivatives, heading up the Asian team from 1997. From early 2000 he became global head of interest rate products, with responsibility for both sales and trading of interest rates, credit, cash and derivatives products.

The promotion means Varenne becomes a member of SG’s management committee within the debt finance division, headed up by Marc Breillout.
