Nomura hires chief economist in New York

Nomura Securities International (NSI) has hired Paul Sheard in the newly created position of global chief economist and head of economic research in New York.

Previously managing director for economic research at Barclays Capital, he now reports globally to Hideyuki Takahashi, Nomura's head of global research in Tokyo, and in New York to Koji Wada and Craig Phares, co-heads of equity at NSI.

Prior to working at Barclays Capital, Sheard worked at Lehman Brothers for more than eight years, most recently as global chief economist and earlier as Asia chief economist. A fluent Japanese speaker, he lived a total of 17 years in Japan.
