ABN Amro poaches Sturmey as Asia-Pacific ECM head from UBS

ABN Amro has appointed John Sturmey as its Hong Kong-based head of equity capital markets (ECM) for Asia-Pacific. He moves from a similar role at UBS in Hong Kong.

Neil Galloway had previously been head of mergers and acquisitions/ECM Asia at the Dutch bank. That position will no longer exist following Sturmey’s appointment and the planned reorganisation of ABN Amro’s equities and corporate finance businesses within the combined RBS/ABN Amro team. Galloway will now work on special projects while reviewing various options within the enlarged business.

Sturmey has 12 years’ investment banking experience in Asia and Europe. He worked at UBS for eight years, most recently as managing director of ECM. He moved to Asia in 2004 and has significant experience in equity and equity-linked origination and syndication across a broad spread of geographies, says ABN Amro.

Sturmey reports to Matthew Kirkby, global head of equities origination, and David Roberts, head of Asian equities.
