NRG Energy creates chief risk officer role

NRG Energy has hired Philip Chesson to fill the newly created role of chief risk officer.

A spokeswoman at the Minneapolis-based company told RiskNews' sister publication, Energy Risk, that the work typically carried out by a chief risk officer has, until now, been carried out by employees on the "financial side of the business".

Chesson joins NRG from Williams Companies, where he held various executive positions including vice-president of enterprise risk services and risk control officer of energy services.

Chesson will report to Robert Flexon, NRG chief financial officer.
