Tremont appoints UK managing director

Tremont Advisors, a consulting and information provider for the alternative investment business, has hired Rupert Allan as managing director of its UK subsidiary Tremont TASS (Europe). Allan will oversee all marketing and business development for Tremont outside the US.

Tremont TASS provides a range of data on the performance of more than 2,500 alternative asset managers in Europe, primarily hedge funds, and promotes Tremont’s advisory products and services in continental Europe and the UK.

Allan, who will report to Tremont president Barry Colvin, will help co-ordinate Tremont’s hedge fund manager due-diligence process in Europe. Before joining Tremont, Allan was executive director of the structured alternative investment team at Société Générale, where he was responsible for marketing alternative investment products globally.

Interest in alternative investments remains strong, according to statistics compiled by Tremont’s TASS research. A total of $5.6 billion was added to alternative investments in the first quarter of 2002. The most popular strategies this year are event-driven, convertible arbitrage and fixed-income arbitrage.
