Academic quits NYU for Hedge Fund

Nimbus, as his fund will be called, will trade volatility arbitrage and is scheduled to start business on July 1. Avellaneda is currently on leave from NYU.

Part of Paris-based Capital Fund Management (CFM), it will be the third main fund in the company, each of which has a distinctive trading strategy – Discus operates as a managed futures fund and Ventus is an equity long/short statistical arbitrage fund.

Avellaneda said the majority of the fund’s customers will be based in the US, adding that the fund might eventually move location, although no decision regarding this has yet been made.
