KWI hires new financial engineer

KWI, the London-based energy risk management software company, has hired Oleg Zakharov as vice-president of financial engineering – a newly created position. In his new role, Zakharov will be responsible for KWI’s risk management framework, architecture and analytics.

Zakharov, who holds a PhD in physics and MSc in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley, joins KWI from Abbey National Treasury Services, where he designed web-based cross-desk risk management systems.

Before joining Abbey National, Zakharov worked at risk management technology company Infinity as a senior financial engineer, before Pennsylvania-based risk technology firm SunGard acquired the company in 1998. At SunGard, Zakharov worked on the development of the risk management module of Panorama, the company’s energy trading system, incorporating Monte Carlo, value-at-risk and potential credit exposure.
