Walter to run Basel Committee secretariat

Walter, who joined the New York Fed in 1991, will take a ‘leave of absence’ of about three years from the New York supervisor from next month. He was previously given leave for two years in 1994 to work as a member of the secretariat for the Basel Committee.

He will take over as secretary general from Ryozo Himino, who came from the Japanese Financial Services Agency and has held the role since November 1, 2003.

Walter holds a masters degree from Columbia University.
