Credit Suisse names Varvel CEO of EMEA

Varvel succeeds Michael Philipp, who has been chairman and CEO of the EMEA region for the past three years. Philipp will step down as a member of the executive board to assume a new role as chairman of Middle East and Africa, focusing on clients in the region while maintaining a close working relationship with Varvel.

Varvel joined Credit Suisse in 1990. He will assume his new role in addition to his current responsibilities as co-head of the global investment banking department and head of the global markets solutions group in the investment banking division. His responsibilities will also cover the private banking and asset management divisions at Credit Suisse across the EMEA region.
