Standard Chartered appoints head of client research

Standard Chartered has appointed Alex Barrett to the newly created role of head of client research across all global markets.

This position will cover FX, fixed income, interest rates and commodities. Barrett was previously head of the bank's global client group. He joined Standard Chartered in 2004 as global head of FX sales, and was previously global head of FX derivatives at ABN Amro.

In his new role, Barrett will be based in London, reporting to David Edwards, wholesale bank chief operating officer, and Gerard Lyons, wholesale bank chief economist.

The bank said it also plans to merge the global client group, global corporate sales and global investor sales groups.
