Blundell new CME managing director in Europe

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has named Mark Blundell as managing director, CME Europe, based in London.

Blundell will lead the expansion of CME’s London operation to meet the needs of its European customer base. Under his direction, CME Europe will implement the exchange’s business plan in Europe, working to expand access and distribution of Globex, the CME’s electronic trading platform. Blundell will also be working towards increasing awareness and utilisation of CME markets.

Before joining CME, Blundell was chairman and founding partner of Swaps.com, a business-to-business over-the-counter derivatives internet auction space. He has held previous positions at Rabobank, as treasurer of its London branch and global head of the financial institutions and governments group, and at Sakura Global Capital in London. In 1977 he joined Citibank’s consulting group on international finance and risk management in New York, and went on to become treasurer of France and Monaco for Citicorp and derivatives head for Europe. He is also a former vice-chairman of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association.

"Mark brings an extensive background in the derivatives and investment banking fields," said CME president and chief executive officer Jim McNulty.

Blundell reports to Arman Falsafi, managing director, global electronic trading and data, products and services division. The appointment is effective immediately.
