Old Mutual Asset Management appoints head of risk management

Howkins was previously senior vice-president and chief information officer at Mellon Institutional Asset Management.

Old Mutual said he brings a broad background in risk management, technology and business systems planning to the company. Prior to Mellon, he held positions at Fleet Boston Financial, Fleet Technology Solutions, Titan-Unidyne Corporation, EG&G, Purvis Systems and Raytheon.

Howkins will report to chief operating officer Tom Turpin.
