Iris names new chairman

Ure retired from the board of news agency, Reuters, last year, where he was strategic advisor with responsibility for group strategy, marketing and new business development.

He joins Iris founder, Michael Laven, chief executive Richard Vaughan and Michael Chalfen from Apax Partners on the board. He will help Iris "strengthen relationships with the world’s leading investment banks", said Laven.

Ure has also served as chairman and non-exec chairman of the Reuters-Equant extranet joint venture, Radianz. A former journalist, Ure joined Reuters in 1968 and worked in all facets of Reuters’ operations and strategy.

He is credited for Reuters’ acquisition of the former Teknekron Software Systems, which later led to the creation of Tibco Finance Technology as well as the publicly traded, Tibco software company.

Ure is currently a non-exec director of publishing group Blackwell and UK-based Independent Television News.
