RBS acquires Mizuho team to expand securitisation business

The financial markets division of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has hired three bankers from Mizuho Securities to expand its continental Europe securitisation team.

Thierry Sebton, previously European head of securitisation at the Japanese bank, will lead the RBS team, which will focus on French, Spanish and German deals. Sebton’s securitisation background includes time spent at Deutsche Bank and Banque Paribas.

Tarek Safi and Enrique Marin will join Sebton. They also worked in securitisation for Mizuho. Two current RBS securitisation bankers – Tristram Sutton and Patrick Tevi – will also report to Sebton. They will cover Spain and France respectively.

Philip Basil, London-based head of securitisation for RBS Financial Markets, said the new hires are in line with the bank’s focus on European expansion. “They [Sebton, Safi and Marin] have good local knowledge of these expanding markets,” said Basil.
