ING re-enters Asian equity derivatives market

ING Financial Markets has appointed Trinh Du as director and head of structured and listed equity derivatives trading, marking the Dutch institution’s return to the Asian equity derivative markets after an absence of five years.

Du joins ING in Hong Kong following an eight-year stint at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently manager for equity derivative trading, Asia ex-Japan. At the Dutch bank, Du will be responsible for developing the bank’s equity derivative platform in Asia, as well as structuring equity derivative products for institutional, retail and corporate clients. The group will initially consist of two people in Asia and two based in Amsterdam, although the team could grow to eight or 10 people in the future, according to a bank official. The group’s primary focus will include the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan markets.

Du will report to Peter Cruiming, head of structured and listed equity derivatives, based in Amsterdam, and locally to Peter Johnson, head of international equities. “[Du’s] structuring expertise and knowledge of the Asian derivatives market provide a strong foundation from which to build our derivative platform,” commented Johnson.

ING was last active in the Asian equity derivatives market in the mid-90s, but retreated during the Asian financial crisis in 1997-98.
