The UK Financial Services Authority has named Hector Sants as its new chief executive, replacing John Tiner, who left the regulator in July.

Tiner, who has been chief executive since 2003, originally announced his resignation in January this year, saying he intended to return to the private sector. Before joining the FSA in April 2001, Tiner worked for Arthur Andersen, in a variety of roles, but latterly as the head of its worldwide financial services industry practice group.
