Deutsche Bank’s chief operating officer, chief risk officer and treasurer, Thomas Fischer (right), has resigned in protest over the German bank’s move to create an effective chief executive role for Joseph Ackermann, present head of corporate and investment banking.

Fischer strongly opposed efforts by Ackermann and present board spokesman Rolf Breuer to slim down the bank’s board – where all directors have an equal voice – and establish a group executive committee of business heads
