Mizuho bucks trend with ¥5.7trn JGB build-up

Valuation losses ease as those at SMFG and SMTG climb

Mizuho Financial Group added ¥5.7 trillion ($36.2 billion) of Japanese government bonds (JGBs) in the three months to June 30, far outpacing changes at its major domestic peers.

The bank held ¥20.6 trillion of available-for-sale JGBs as of June 30, up 38% from three months earlier and the highest level in three years.
