About a year ago, Bill Perkins found himself at a crossroads. For the past decade, he had been a senior natural gas trader at Houston-based Centaurus Advisors, the famously successful hedge fund management firm that made its founder, John Arnold, a billionaire. But in May 2012, Arnold unexpectedly called it quits and announced he was closing his flagship Centaurus Energy Master Fund.
