Expansion of LNG supply to South-east Asia could boost swaps market
As a number of regasification plants start to come online, pricing agencies are looking to offer a region-specific benchmark with the potential to drive up use of LNG swaps
A slew of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminals coming on-line in South-east Asia stand to boost spot LNG trade in the region, which market participants say could create a new avenue for the nascent Asia LNG swaps market.
Singapore's regasification and storage terminal will open at some point during the second quarter of 2013, while Thailand opened its regasification facility in July 2011. Major LNG producers Indonesia and Malaysia both announced plans this year to build
