Green Exchange’s London launch brings Nymex carbon products to Europe

The New York Mercantile Exchange's (Nymex) environmental products trading platform, the Green Exchange, has announced the opening of a London office, in an attempt to penetrate the European carbon space. Green Exchange International intends to list futures and options contracts that are currently offered on Nymex.

"Having an office in London and a dedicated team working with the trading community directly involved in the European Union Emissions Tracing System (EU ETS) reinforces our commitment to the European marketplace, and to building a more robust solution for managing risk in the carbon markets," says Tom Lewis, chief executive officer of the Green Exchange.

Les Male has been appointed as managing director for global product development and will report directly to Tom Lewis. Male has 20 years' experience in the European gas, power and exchange industry and most recently served as the commercial director at European energy exchange APX-ENDEX.

Henrik Hasselknippe has also been appointed to the role of managing director of global product development and was most recently the global head of carbon analysis at carbon consultancy firm Point Carbon in Oslo, Norway. Hasselknippe also has 10 years of experience in the energy and environmental sectors.
