MEP Radwan says EU Commission will conduct SME survey
The EU Commission will conduct a survey of the impact that the organisation's capital adequacy directive (CAD) will have on small and medium-sized banks and corporates (SMEs) over the coming months, and the results will be available before the end of 2003, according to Alexander Radwan, a member of the European Parliament.
Radwan is well known for the report he has prepared on the EU Commission’s CAD – the EU parliament will have the task of debating and voting on putting the CAD into law in 2004.The final draft of Radwan’s report was released in late June. In the report, he calls for further exploration of the impact that the new banking rules will have on SMEs. “SMEs are the backbone of the European economy and need special arrangements,” said Radwan in an interview.
