Hanafin joins Centrica

Centrica has named Mark Hanafin its new managing director Centrica Energy & Europe, reporting to chief executive, Sam Laidlaw.

Hanafin becomes a board director of Centrica and a member of the company's executive committee. He replaces Jake Ulrich who has led Centrica's upstream operations for 11 years, and who retires from the company at the end of July 2008.

Hanafin joins from Shell, where he was president and CEO of Shell Energy North America, based in Houston. He has been at Shell for 21 years
