HSBC names new Singapore head of global markets
HSBC has promoted Amit Gupta to head of global markets in Singapore from his previous role as head of sales for global markets, with effect from April 1. He succeeds John McGowan, who will retire in June.
“Amit has been instrumental in developing a successful multi-product sales platform business network in a highly competitive environment,” says French. “His background and risk advisory experience will be a tremendous asset to the bank and our team, boosting our capability to deliver value-added products to our clients.”
Gupta will continue to work closely with regional corporations and financial institutions, and his new role will include management of HSBC’s local balance-sheet, trading and capital markets, adds French.
Gupta joined the bank in January 1992 and spent eight years in various senior roles in India, including as senior economist, head of derivatives and head of sales. He relocated to Singapore in 2000 to help develop the southeast Asian derivatives business.
