US automakers lose ground to foreign rivals

Spreads on the Big Three widen in reaction to news of market share erosion

The Big Three automakers conceded more losses this past month, despite having the added bonus of a home field advantage. Japanese-based Toyota Motor increased its share of the US light vehicle market to 11.2% in 2003 from 10.4% in 2002 and 9.3% in 2000.
