How Australia’s inflation overhaul could lure global traders

Australia’s move to monthly inflation reporting set to revitalise local inflation-linked bond and swap markets

In late autumn last year, investors felt it was a matter of when not whether the Reserve Bank of Australia would cut interest rates. After a notable unemployment spike in September, economists were predicting the RBA could move before Christmas, or if not in the early new year. 

That all changed on November 26, when the Australian Bureau of Statistics released its first complete monthly inflation
