MMF margin adoption needed to boost tokenisation efforts

Instruments must be more widely accepted as initial margin for new tech initiatives to take off, says JPM exec

If tokenised money market funds (MMFs) are to eventually be used as collateral, market participants say the instruments need to become more widely accepted as margin to have an impact.

Speaking at the Futures Industry Association’s International Derivatives Expo in London today (June 18), Eileen Herlihy, global head of sales for trading services at JP Morgan, said the eligibility of MMF collateral will determine the success of this technology in derivatives markets.

“Collateral cannot sit static
