New York disaster management centre opens

NEW YORK – Five years after its previous headquarters were destroyed, the government agency responsible for disaster recovery in New York City finally relocated to a new permanent base of operations in January.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) officially unveiled its new home in downtown Brooklyn, a little over a mile from its former home in Lower Manhattan – albeit on the other side of the East River.

The new site replaces the OEM's former headquarters at Seven World Trade Center, destroyed in the September 11th attacks, and a temporary facility underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The
