Taiwan earthquake hits e-trading in Asia

TAIPEI – Regional telecom vendors expect it will take about three weeks to repair the damage to undersea fibre-optic cables located off the coast of Taiwan, that were damaged by an undersea earthquake on December 27.

The earthquake, which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, simultaneously hit all four of the critical cables that connect Asia and the US, temporarily halting trading between these markets.
