TD makes play for commodities market

International launch of new precious metals trading business builds on previous efforts

TD Securities is targeting demand for precious metals trading with the launch of a new global precious metals (GPM) sales and trading business today (December 6).

The effort is being headed by Tim Gardiner, managing director at GPM in Toronto, who joined the bank from Mitsui & Co. There he was president and chief executive and has previously also worked at JP Morgan.

"It's an area that TD has been slowly building over several years in terms of their investment banking and their mining equity
