EIB loan protection


European Union financing institution, the European Investment Bank (EIB) has credit default protection against its bank loan portfolio, according to bankers. “While this type of risk management move is commonplace in the banking and corporate sectors, it’s not the sort of thing you usually see a supranational doing,” says one banker.

“They have done a first-to-default on a basket of banks – which gives them protection on the first credit to default in a portfolio of banks,” he adds.
