Powernext gas futures to launch in November

Energy exchange Powernext is set to launch natural gas spot and futures contracts for the French market in the second half of this month.

The contracts, for France’s PEG (Point d’Echange de Gaz) gas hubs, are awaiting regulatory approval. The initial slate of products will include spot and physically-delivered futures contacts on PEG Nord, and spot contracts on PEG Sud and the South-Western TIGF zone. Futures contracts on PEG Sud will be launched once Gaz de France’s Fos-Cavou LNG terminal is up and running, expected to be in June 2009.

According to Powernext CEO Jean-Francois Conil-Lacoste, regulatory approval is still pending
