CSFB unveils longevity index for the US

Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) has launched the Credit Suisse Longevity Index in the US - the first index designed to help price and structure financial instruments related to this risk.

The index will initially be restricted to the US and will reflect standardised measures of the life-expectancy of the general population - plus gender and age specific sub-indices - based on publicly available statistics.

US interest in longevity risk is set to increase as insurers prepare to implement the C3
