Gearing up for OTC

A relaxation of derivatives regulations in South Korea has led to a surge in domestic players preparing to enter the OTC market for the first time. Melvyn Westlake reports


It has been a hectic, if fretful summer for senior securities house managers in Seoul. They are gearing up for the start of a brand new and potentially lucrative over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market in South Korea. And as well as shaping competitive strategies, they are trawling widely for scarce staff with the right skills and experience to launch their new trading operations.

Beginning late this month, top firms such as Samsung Securities, LG Investment and Securities, Hyundai
